The ScanSafe Security Threat Alert Team (STAT) is a key part of the ScanSafe Threat Center, which monitors the global state of Web traffic, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Combining data from ScanSafe’s Outbreak Intelligence multi-layered threat technology and expert analysis from STAT, the ScanSafe Threat Center scans 7 billion Web requests in real-time each month from customers in over 50 countries, providing unparalleled insight into Web threats, trends and Internet usage in real-time.
STAT is comprised of a group of malware experts dedicated to analyzing trends and anomalies in Web traffic scanned by the ScanSafe Threat Center and the more than 12 million web threats it blocks each month. The team performs ongoing expert analysis of Internet threat s including viruses, key loggers, bot networks, spyware, phishing attacks and other malware and identifies trends in new malware tactics and how to prevent them.
STAT also provides timely information on significant, newly emerging Web-borne threats via ScanSafe Threat Alerts , which detail malware attacks and tactics. STAT also delivers insight on Web threats on the ScanSafe STAT blog - a tool designed to provide readers with the pulse on the overall Web threat landscape.

![]() | Mary Landesman As senior security researcher at ScanSafe, Mary Landesman is responsible for ongoing management and analysis of data generated by the Security Threat Alert Team (STAT) as well as reporting on the latest Web-based threats and security trends. Mary serves as the corporate spokesperson on Web threats and represents the company at industry events and forums. She is also the primary author of the ScanSafe STAT blog (), a real-time resource providing expert analysis and insight on the latest Web-borne threats and scams, tips on how to protect corporate assets from infection and observations on the threat landscape. STAT performs ongoing analysis of Internet threats including viruses, key loggers, bot networks, spyware, phishing attacks and other malware. The team is responsible for issuing threat alerts on significant Web-based malware outbreaks. STAT is a key part of the ScanSafe Threat Center, which monitors the global state of Web traffic, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Combining data from ScanSafe Outbreak Intelligence multi-layered threat technology and analysis from STAT, the ScanSafe Threat Center scans 7 billion Web requests each month from customers in over 50 countries, providing unparalleled insight into Web threats, trends and Internet usage in real-time. Mary most recently served as content manager for the Microsoft Malware Protection Center (MMPC), Microsoft’s anti-malware research and response team, brings more than 12 years of experience to her new role. With more than 12 years of experience in telecom security and technical training, Mary entered the field of anti-virus software prior to the first macro virus, witnessing the evolution of computer viruses from isolated system threat to Internet scourge. She has worked in a consulting capacity for security firms including FrontBridge Technologies (acquired by Microsoft), Shavlik Technologies and Trend Micro. Landesman also served as a technical product manager for InDefense Inc. and as a technical support supervisor and communications manager for Command Software Systems. Landesman attended Brevard College and served as a telecommunication specialist in the U.S. Coast Guard. |
